It’s another plethora-of-news kind of day. (Doesn’t Thomas Jefferson look so excited?)
So, if you’re lucky enough to have today off (I’m not), here’s some follow-ups from items in previous posts to keep you busy.
- Beyond Blue celebrates the “melancholy Lincoln” in honor of Presidents Day. (Anyone know if George Washington had bouts with mental illness?)
- World of Psychology takes the media to task over coverage of the NIU gunman and his reported psychiatric problems.
- Brain Blogger looks at that notorious New England Journal of Medicine study about “positive bias” in studies on the effectiveness of antidepressants. The author says drug companies are justly concerned about the marketability of their products, but more complete publications of results are crucial.
- More disturbing details emerge in the case of the New York City psychiatrist who was murdered with a meat cleaver. Apparently the suspect was going after her colleague.
