About Me

I am a copy editor at SmartBrief in Washington, D.C. I previously worked as a copy editor for two newspapers in upstate New York: the Times Herald-Record in Middletown and The Daily Star in Oneonta.

I am originally from Towson, Md., just outside Baltimore. I have a Master of Science in Journalism degree from the Medill School at Northwestern University (Class of 2008) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with honors from Calvin College (Class of 2003).

This site originally began as a blog for my New Media Storytelling class at Medill, and I’ve kept some posts from that time¬†while adding other work I did during and after graduate school.

In my free time, I like to read; write; do church activities; cook and bake; volunteer; drink coffee; root for the Orioles, Nationals, Knights and Wildcats; go to concerts; run; and do yoga. I’m also always up for a good game of bar trivia, especially if it’s with other “Jeopardy!” folk.

Here are some organizations that I am involved with:

Arlington Food Assistance Center

Career Network Ministry, McLean Bible Church

US Academic Bee & Bowl

National History Bee & Bowl
