I’m Catherine Guiles (better known as Cathy). I am a copy editor at SmartBrief, Inc., in Washington, D.C.
I previously worked at the Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y. (2008-2012) and The Daily Star in Oneonta, N.Y. (2003-2007).
In August 2008, I earned my master’s degree from what is now the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications at Northwestern University, and I created this blog for my New Media Storytelling class in Winter Quarter 2008. Originally, the focus was on young adults and mental illness, but as you can see, I like to write about just about anything.
I am originally from Towson, Md., near Baltimore, and grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same high school as Michael Phelps. I graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 2003 with a degree in English.
In my free time, I like to read, write, drink coffee, cook and bake, spend time with friends, do church activities, volunteer, root for the Ravens, Orioles (yes, I know) and Wildcats, and watch “Jeopardy!” and “The Big Bang Theory.”
The ideas and opinions expressed in this blog are entirely my own and do not in any way reflect those of my employers or institutions of higher learning.
Thanks for reading, and God bless!
