I’m Catherine Guiles (better known as Cathy). I am a copy editor at the Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y.
In August 2008, I earned my master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, and I created this blog for my New Media Storytelling class in Winter Quarter 2008.
Before coming to Medill, I worked as a copy editor at The Daily Star in Oneonta, N.Y., for almost four years. I am originally from Towson, Md., near Baltimore, and grew up in the same neighborhood and went to the same high school as Michael Phelps. I graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 2003 with a degree in English.
In my free time, I like to read, write, do church activities, drink coffee, cook and eat vegetarian food, spend time with friends, root for the Ravens, Orioles and Wildcats, and watch “Lost,” “Jeopardy!” and “Community,” the last of which I think is the funniest show on TV.
The ideas and opinions expressed in this blog are entirely the product of my own quirky brain and do not in any way reflect those of my employers or institutions of higher learning.
